5 stars, no text
Say thanks and mention the job or area if you know it. That one detail stops it sounding automatic. No sales pitch needed.
Guide for UK trades
Lots of customers just tap the stars and go. There's nothing to respond to, so it's tempting to skip it. Don't. A short reply takes a minute and shows the next customer you read every review. Here's what to say at each star level, what to avoid, and eight examples you can adapt.
You can reply to any review on your Google Business Profile, including ones with no written comment. The reply isn't really for the reviewer. It's for the people checking you out before they ring. A profile where every review has a short, personal answer looks looked-after. A row of unanswered stars looks like nobody's watching.
Keep it to one or two sentences. Use their first name and, if you can match the job, one real detail.
Say thanks and mention the job or area if you know it. That one detail stops it sounding automatic. No sales pitch needed.
Thank them warmly. You can add a light, open invitation to tell you if anything could have been better. Don't push or sound put out about the missing star.
Thank them and say you'd like to hear how the job went. Give a simple way to get in touch. Keep it friendly and short, not defensive.
Stay calm. Say sorry it wasn't right and invite them to contact you directly so you can look into it. Don't guess what went wrong, blame anyone or share any details about them. If you can't match the review to a job, say so politely and ask them to get in touch privately.
Swap the [brackets] for real details. Only say what's true for your job.

Yes. Business owners can reply to any review on their Google Business Profile, including star-only reviews with no written comment. A short, personal reply shows future customers you read every review.
Stay calm and brief. Thank them, say you're sorry it wasn't right, and invite them to contact you directly so you can look into it. Don't guess what went wrong, blame anyone or share any customer details in public.
Don't ask in your reply, and never offer a refund, discount or anything else in return for a review or a changed rating. Google doesn't allow incentives for reviews. Fix the problem if you can and let the customer decide.
No guarantees. Google decides how profiles rank and what it shows. Replying helps future customers see how you handle feedback. It does not promise higher rankings, more leads or more income.
